Description
IL-12p40, also known as IL-12B, is a subunit of both the IL-12 and IL-23 cytokines. It is not thought to be bioactive on its own, but it has been shown to regulate IL-12 activity in antagonistic manner by competitively binding with the IL-12 receptor. IL-12p40 also functions as a chemoattractant molecule for macrophage infiltration into tumor sites. There has additionally been evidence to suggest that IL-12p40 mediates a protective immune response against mycobacterial infection by serving as a necessary component for granuloma formation and promoting Th1 effector cell functions (PMID: 17126601, 10453037, 11739515).Specifications
